Overview

According to Section 19-28 of the Chanhassen City Code, use of the city water supply system for lawn and garden sprinkling, irrigation, car washing, or other non-potable uses shall be prohibited between the hours of 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. any day of the week and still be limited to an odd-even schedule corresponding to property address effective each year from May 1 to September 30. Watering during the hottest parts of the day could be more effective and a better water conservatory practice.

Odd/Even Schedule

  • If your property address ends in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, or 8), you may sprinkle on even-numbered days of the month (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.).
  • If your property address ends in an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7, or 9), you may sprinkle on odd-numbered days of the month (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.)
  • No watering allowed any day between 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The restrictions apply only to the use of municipal water. Private wells and alternate water sources are exempt from the restrictions.

Permits

Permits for daily watering of new sod (14 days) and seed (21 days) can be obtained from the Engineering Department at no cost. If it is determined that a shortage of the water supply threatens the city, the city may, by resolution, limit the use, times, and hours during which water may be used from the city’s water supply system.
