Overview

The Engineering Department provides contract administration and supervision of consultant engineering services for sewer, water, and street projects, as well as performs plan review and construction monitoring for all developer-installed public improvements.

This department also administrates the city’s Pavement Management System and Sump Pump program, reviews building permits to ensure compliance with city Council-approved grading plans and conditions of development approval, performs speed and traffic count studies, and responds to customer complaints, requests, and concerns relating to the city’s streets, water, sanitary sewer, and drainage.

Assessment Policy

The City of Chanhassen's Assessment Policy is intended to provide general direction to city staff and their consultants in preparation of assessment rolls to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all properties subject to an assessment. This document will also be used to educate and explain to property owners about the policy. All assessments shall follow the process outlined in Minnesota State Statutes, Chapter 429, which gives the city the legal authority to assess property.

Engineering Fees

Periods longer than one week require City Council approval. A fee covers the cost of weekly site visits by city staff.
Fees vary based on project.
Additional staff time over one hour is billed at $40/hour (15-minute increments).
The city pays lab fees if the test is positive.
Fees are subject to sales tax (6.875%).
