Overview

The city flushes all hydrants annually, typically in April. It takes city crews about three weeks to flush all the hydrants. Flushing creates a scouring velocity in the water mains to remove any settled impurities. The flushing operation also serves as a check for proper fire hydrant function.

If discolored water is experienced in your home or business, it is usually temporary and will clear up in a few hours. Running the cold water taps should help speed up this process. Contact the City Utility Department if the water does not clear so additional flushing can be scheduled.
