Overview

The goal of an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan is to provide public accessibility to all users. The city has drafted a plan to ensure all roads, sidewalks, intersections, and trails located in the public right-of-way comply with the accessibility standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The ADA Transition Plan provides a better understanding of the City of Chanhassen's public infrastructure and identifies needs concerning compliance with accessibility standards. This includes pedestrian ramps, sidewalks, and intersections. The plan also helps the city prioritize future investments toward full compliance.

Self-Evaluation

Self-evaluation is a critical aspect of the Transition Plan. A comprehensive self-evaluation was performed in 2018. Additional self-evaluations will be conducted occasionally, and information will be added to the plan. This allows the city to identify areas that need improvements, which can be added as part of future city projects.

Another area the city strives to be compliant with is traffic signals. Currently, all signalized intersections have push buttons to signal pedestrian crossing. Many of these push buttons must be installed according to current standards, which now require vibrations and sounds alerting the user when it is prudent to cross the intersection.

For a comprehensive overview of the 2018 Self-Evaluation findings, refer to Appendix A of the Transition Plan.

Grievance Process

Citizens have the right to file a grievance with the city if they feel there is noncompliance. There are multiple ways to file a grievance, as the city wants to make submitting one non-burdensome.

To file a formal grievance, you can do so via SeeClickFix, completing this Form and submitting it to the Engineering Department either electronically or in hard copy, calling the Engineering Department at (952) 227-1160, or stopping into the Engineering Department at City Hall where a staff member can assist you as needed.
