The Neighborhood Crime Watch Program cooperates between law enforcement and individual neighborhoods. The program encourages neighbors to unite in steps to deter crime. Studies show that neighbors who know one another are more likely to keep a watchful eye on the neighborhood.

Per City of Chanhassen Ordinance 707, registration/licensing for all door-to-door peddlers and solicitors are no longer required as of April 24, 2023.

Hours

Door-to-door solicitation hours are between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Recommendations

• Immediately call 911 if a solicitor refuses to leave your property after you have told them to leave.
• Be careful of whom you let in your home.
• Remind your children how to deal with strangers and the rules of safety, as they may answer the door when you're not home.
• If you do not wish to receive solicitors, posting a sign stating, "Peddlers and Solicitors Prohibited," is enforceable per the Chanhassen ordinance. The sign must be at least 4 inches long by 4 inches in height, and the printing shall not be smaller than 48-point font. The city has FREE vinyl window clings available as shown below and can be picked up at city hall or by calling (925) 227-1100.

In Chanhassen, traffic safety is a common concern raised by citizens. In residential areas, unsafe driving behavior can deprive families of feeling safe in their neighborhoods. Police visibility/enforcement has only a temporary effect on traffic behavior. The key to reducing the risk of crashes and injuries is when citizens remember to follow the rules on roadway safety.

Rules of Roadway Safety

• Slow down and drive sensibly.
• Be exceptionally watchful for children near roadways, as they are small and unpredictable. A child under age ten doesn't have the skills to judge a vehicle's speed and has limited peripheral vision.
• Be respectful while driving through any neighborhood; drive slowly on all residential streets.
• Minimize your distractions:
  • Postpone complex or emotional conversations on the cell phone or with passengers.
  • If a passenger is distracting you, pull over where it is safe and legal to do so.
  • Be sure to plan your route before driving.

Pedestrians

• Be visible: Wear bright clothing during the day and reflective materials after dark.
• Always walk facing traffic.
• Never allow children to play in the street
• Reinforce "Stop, Look, Listen."
