Pickleball
Overview
The city currently has ten outdoor public pickleball courts. Six of those are located at the Chanhassen Recreation Center (lighted), while four are located at Roundhouse Park (unlit). More potential courts are planned in the new Civic Campus.
Pickleball at the Rec Center
At the Chanhassen Recreation Center, we strive to create an encouraging and inclusive experience for our pickleball players. Our outdoor courts are designated for "open play" and are unable to be reserved (with the exception of city programs).
If courts are full, make sure to adhere to the following guidelines:
- Groups must rotate after the completion of the game.
- Play one game to 11 points and then rotate off the court.
- Players waiting to play should place the paddle in the paddle organizer in order of arrival. This ensures fair rotations.
- Players waiting for a court cannot skip over a partially filled group in front of them.
These rules (which are posted at the courts), apply to all players, including foursomes who prefer to stay together. This ensures that participants get a fair share of playing time.
Indoor Pickleball
The Recreation Center features several indoor pickleball options in our gym:
- Beginner Open Play Pickleball (daily fee applies)
- This style is for new or lower ranked pickleball players to play and improve skills.
- Open Pickleball (daily fee applies)
- A non-instructional time for players who understand rules, court positioning, and game play.
- Private Reservations
- An opportunity to make a single court reservation for up to 6 players. The fee is $20 for 90-minutes of play. Available times: Tuesdays or Thursdays between 7:30-10:00 am. Call 952-227-1400 to reserve a court.
When playing in the gym, make sure to adhere to the following guidelines:
- All participants must follow the standard gym rules.
- Teams are formed by first people in the gym (not pre-picked).
- Games are played first to 11 points.
- Court rotation: when others are waiting, you must rotate off the court once your game is finished.
- Winners place their paddles in the closest bucket (see graphic) to center on the left; losers place their paddle in the closest bucket to center on the right.
- Once a center bucket reaches 4 paddles, it is rotated to the outside and those 4 players are up next on court. Then the arrow switches to the centermost bucket on the other side.
Please see the gym schedule for available times.
