Overview
How can you dispose of your Christmas tree?
- Have a local Scout troop pick it up (see below).
- Take it to the Carver County Environmental Center (see below).
- Have your garbage hauler collect it.
- Carver County Environmental Services lists other disposal resources on their website.
Why take your tree to the Environmental Center or have it collected by the Boy Scouts?
Because most haulers who pick up trees take them to a landfill which wastes a natural resource and adds unnecessary waste to the dump, check with your hauler to see if they drop them at a landfill or a compost site. All trees dropped off at the Environmental Center or collected by the scouts are composted.
Scout Tree Collection
Local Scout Troop 174 annually collects Christmas trees door-to-door and delivers them to the Carver County Environmental Center to be brought to a yard waste facility in Shakopee.
Email the troop leader by December 27, 2024 to be a part of the pick-up route on January 4, 2025. The cost for pick-up is $10. This event helps raise funds for the troop's annual operating expenses and camp scholarships, along with providing a service to residents in disposing of their trees properly and conveniently.
Free Tree Drop-Off
Carver County residents can bring trees to the Carver County Environmental Center and recycle them for free through the end of February 2024. Check the Environmental Center website for days and hours open.
Please remove any decorations from your tree before recycling. No yard waste will be accepted during this time.
